Apple’s “Awe Dropping” Event: Design, Health and Performance Refined

Apple’s annual September showcase delivered a refresh across iPhones, AirPods, and Watches, refinements that feel purposeful rather than flashy. The message was clear: sophistication lies in refinement, not reinvention.

At the centre of the event is the iPhone 17 family, now fully upgraded with 120 Hz ProMotion OLED displays across all models and a new generation of silicon. The headline newcomer was the ultra-thin iPhone Air, measuring just 5.6 millimetres and marking Apple’s slimmest iPhone to date.

The iPhone Air delivers the same A19 Pro chip found in the Pro series, a titanium frame, and eSIM-only connectivity worldwide. It is offered in finishes including Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White, and Space Black, starting at approximately AU$1,699. The standard iPhone 17 models begin at around AU$1,399 and feature improved cameras, faster charging, and updated displays.

The new AirPods Pro 3 move Apple’s most popular accessory further into health aware technology. A miniature heart rate sensor enables workout monitoring and integration with the Fitness app.

Audio performance has been refined with enhanced active noise cancellation, better-fitting ear tips, and improved tuning. Apple also introduced real-time translation, allowing users to interpret conversations directly through the earbuds. The AirPods Pro 3 are priced at AU$399 and will be available on 19 September.

Apple also refreshed its wearables with three distinct models.

The Apple Watch Series 11 introduces blood pressure monitoring, hypertension alerts, and advanced health sensors, powered by a more efficient processor, with prices expected to begin from AU$749. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is built for durability and exploration, with extended battery life, improved resilience, and satellite connectivity, starting from around AU$1,399. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch SE 3 offers an always-on display, a faster chip, 5G support, and intuitive gesture controls, with entry pricing at AU$399.
