An evening of poetry, passion, and pianistic prowess awaits. On November 1st, the Esplanade Recital Studio, Singapore, will be transformed into a luminous soundscape as two of the region’s most distinguished pianists, Dr. Lin Hengyue and Dr. Nattapol Tantikarn, unite for Elegy and Ecstasy: Dances of Light and Shadow, an evocative program designed to stir the soul and ignite the imagination.
Performed on two grand pianos, this one-night-only concert unfolds in three emotive acts: tender beauty, dramatic tragedy, and vibrant exoticism. It is a rare opportunity to witness not only technical mastery but also the fusion of two expressive minds, exploring the full range of human experience through music that sings, dances, mourns, and ultimately transcends.

A Tapestry of Emotion, Rhythm, and Myth
From the delicate lyricism of Saint-Saëns’ beloved The Swan to the passionate exuberance of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, the evening’s repertoire is a curated journey across emotional and cultural landscapes. The fiery Three Romances by Argentinian composer Guastavino pulses with Latin warmth, while Gluck’s Orphée ballet offers a mythic depth, transforming ancient tragedy into sublime ballet.
Romantic introspection emerges in the works of Anton Arensky and again through Guastavino, whose pieces evoke longing and tenderness with poetic clarity. The programme’s structure itself reflects a dramatic arc, one where narrative and nuance unfold without a single word spoken, only the virtuosic interplay of four hands across two pianos.
The Artists: A Duet of Distinction
Dr. Lin Hengyue is no stranger to the global stage. A graduate of the Peabody Institute, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, and the University of Oregon, she has enchanted audiences at Carnegie Hall and the United States Department of State. Heralded by The Straits Times as “high spirited, warm-hearted, with feeling and sensitivity,” Lin is not only a performer of remarkable depth but also a dedicated educator, currently shaping the next generation of talent at Singapore Raffles Music College.
A passionate advocate for contemporary Singaporean music, she co-founded SG Inspirations, a project that debuted new works by local composers during Singapore’s SG50 celebrations, a testament to her artistic vision and commitment to cultural innovation.
Dr. Nattapol Tantikarn, meanwhile, brings his own striking brilliance to the duo. Winner of the MTNA Young Artist Competition and the Wideman International Piano Competition, Nattapol has been spotlighted at elite international platforms including the Hamamatsu and Leeds International Piano Competitions. A consummate performer, his artistry has graced stages from Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York to Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore.
Mentored by the legendary Vladimir Horowitz’s protégé, Dean Kramer, Nattapol’s performances are marked by refined sensitivity, commanding technique, and an ability to hold audiences spellbound in rapt attention.

A Musical Dialogue of Light and Shadow
Elegy and Ecstasy is more than a concert. It is a cinematic experience crafted with intention and shaped by two artists at the height of their musical powers. It is a dialogue of contrasts: between sorrow and joy, restraint and abandon, darkness and light. The title itself captures the essence of the evening, a merging of poignant reflection with unbridled celebration.
In a world increasingly dominated by speed and screens, such an intimate, live musical experience offers a rare kind of luxury: time to feel deeply, to reflect quietly, and to be moved profoundly.
