Porsche Taycan Tops Sales for Mainstream Passenger Cars

According to the March sales figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, the Porsche Taycan has become the first electric vehicle to top a mainstream sales segment.

Released internationally in late 2019, the Porsche Taycan topped the March sales figures for a large passenger car over $70k. Selling 161 units, Porsche has topped a segment usually dominated by Mercedes-Benz and BMW. It was followed by Mercedes-Benz-E-Class with 155 sales and BMW 5 Series with 31 sales. Tesla does not appear in these figures as they do not report their sales figures to the survey. However, it is believed that they are the biggest distributor of electric vehicles in Australia.

Porsche Taycan started to appear in Australia last month, so whether the high sales trends will continue into future months is unknown, showing a growing trend of interest in electric vehicles in Australia, or if it is a result of filling past orders.

The Porsche Taycan comes in three models, the Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo, and Taycan Turbo S. Porsche have also produced a station wagon version of the Taycan; this comes in two models the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo and Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo.

With a drive-away price of $210,633, the Taycan 4S is the most economical model. It goes from 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h. The Taycan Turbo has a drive-away price of $292,638 and is the mid-spec model. Going from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 260km/h. The top-range model is the Taycan Turbo S with a drive-away price of $366,138. It goes from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and has a max speed of 260km/h.

The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo has a drive-away price of $221,763; it goes from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 240km/h. At a drive-away price of $295,473, the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo goes from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 250km/h.

All models have the option of two batteries, the Performance battery or the Performance battery plus,  the ranges are around 365km and 415km, respectively. Taycan models are quick charges with the ability to charge 100km in 5 minutes.

Every car in Porsche’s Taycan series emanates the sleek, polished design for which Porsche is known. The Cross Turismo models are spacious and have plenty of room for travel with flexible storage areas. Apple Music is seamlessly integrated for all your travel entertainment needs. They also have voice activation, lane change and night vision assist, comfort access, and surround-view and active parking support. Furthermore, they have an online search engine so that you can look for restaurants or destinations on the go or find your nearest charging station. Using the connect app, drivers can look up the remaining range or set the interior temperature.

Porsche’s Taycan is the cutting edge of luxury electric cars and has the sales results to prove it.
