“For those amongst us who dare to dream, an audacious reality has just arrived!” – Somino Launch Brochure
The first-ever residential superyacht is officially underway in Norway. The $600 million, 728-foot long yacht offers the most luxurious and exclusive homes ever to hit the seas, but to secure residency on board, you will need deep pockets and a personal invitation.
“Somnio, meaning ‘to dream’ in Latin, will be the largest yacht in the world by length and volume,” states Captain Erik Bredhe, co-founder of Somnio. The 221m long and 33,500-tonne ship will be brought to life by Norwegian shipyard specialist VARD. In collaboration with VARD for the design of Somino will be two global leaders in the architecture and design space, Tillberg Design of Sweden and Winch Design from the United Kingdom. Tillberg will lead the high standard design of the vessel, while Winch will craft five star-standard interiors for the residential and amenity spaces. The build will cost approximately $600 million.
Spread across six decks, the vessel will contain 39 lavishly spacious residences for aquatic lovers to explore ultraluxe living on the ocean. Each condo will be fully customizable with options such as private outdoor spaces, libraries, gyms, chef kitchens and dressing rooms. Residents can personalize the apartments to their priorities and requirements. It will also offer indoor/outdoor dining spaces for entertaining. According to Winch designs, a 10,000-bottle wine cellar and tasting room, several restaurants and bars, an onboard beach club with water-sports facilities are just some of the lavish amenities that residents can expect onboard. Complementary to exquisite living conditions is a full concierge service to cater to every need and world-class medical care to keep both the crew and residences safe and healthy.
The exclusive residences will start at $15 million and will be available by invitation or referral only. According to a project spokesman, only serious buyers know how to get in touch for the offering and the identity of those buyers will be kept a “guarded secret.”
According to Captain Bredhe, “Owners will share a truly unique lifestyle at sea, with a hand-picked crew and a never-ending global itinerary of carefully selected destinations and experiences befitting a yacht of this nature,”
Somino will discover the world’s four corners in “slow-paced travel”, exploring anywhere from the Mediterranean to a week in New York to sightseeing expeditions in Antarctica. Residents will access incredible global experiences while enjoying the uniquely secluded lifestyle of private yacht ownership. Exploring this incomparable experience is only made better by the select and like-minded owners of the other onboard dwellings.
Beyond high-class living, sustainability and ocean research is at the heart of the Somnio project. The superyacht employs the latest clean engine technology and advanced onboard equipment for scientists and marine experts to investigate the mysteries of the various ocean environments it passes through. Scientists will use the resources available to report back to every owner on the challenges and solutions of relevant environmental and humanitarian issues. Jim Dixon, director of yachts and aviation at Winch Design, called the project a “revolutionary landmark for the industry”.
Possibly the most beautiful and exclusive yachts ever built, the Somino liner will set sail in 2024.
