Ducati Superleggera V4 Centenario: The Ultimate Expression of Speed and Engineering

Ducati has unveiled the Superleggera V4 Centenario to celebrate its 100th anniversary, showcasing its most extreme road-legal motorcycle ever. With up to 247 horsepower and a full carbon fibre construction, the bike sets new benchmarks for performance and lightweight engineering. Limited to just 500 units, it represents the pinnacle of Ducati’s technological and design expertise.

For 100 years, Ducati has pursued a singular vision: building the fastest, most thrilling motorcycles possible. The Superleggera V4 Centenario is the clearest embodiment of that philosophy to date. Created to mark the company’s centenary in Bologna, this motorcycle is not simply a tribute model. It is a statement of intent, demonstrating how far engineering, materials, and performance can be pushed within the boundaries of a road-legal machine.

The Superleggera name has always been reserved for Ducati’s most ambitious projects. With the Centenario edition, engineers were given complete creative freedom. The goal was simple yet demanding. Build the most advanced, powerful, and lightweight superbike ever offered to the public, without compromise.

At the heart of the Superleggera V4 Centenario lies a new 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale R 1100 engine. In standard road configuration, it produces 228 horsepower. When equipped with the included racing exhaust and performance oil, output climbs to a staggering 247 horsepower.

This level of performance is extraordinary on its own, but it becomes even more remarkable when paired with the bike’s incredibly low weight. The motorcycle weighs just 173 kilograms without fuel, and drops to 167 kilograms in full track configuration. That results in a power to weight ratio of 1.48 horsepower per kilogram, placing it in territory typically reserved for race machines.

The engine itself is a masterpiece of engineering. It uses titanium components, redesigned internals, and lightweight construction techniques to reduce mass while increasing responsiveness. Features such as hand tuned desmodromic valve timing and advanced fuel injection systems ensure both precision and raw power delivery.

One of the defining characteristics of the Superleggera V4 Centenario is its extensive use of carbon fibre. The entire chassis is constructed from this material, including the frame, swingarm, subframes, and wheels. Even smaller components such as the mudguards, seat base, and intake ducts are crafted from carbon fibre.

This obsessive focus on lightweight materials results in a motorcycle that is not only lighter than its predecessors, but also more agile and responsive. Compared to the Panigale V4 R, the weight savings are significant, enhancing acceleration, braking, and cornering performance.

The manufacturing process reflects aerospace level precision. Each carbon fibre component undergoes multiple non destructive tests to ensure structural integrity. This attention to detail reinforces the bike’s position as both a technological showcase and a functional performance machine.

The Superleggera V4 Centenario introduces several world firsts for a road legal motorcycle. Most notably, it features carbon ceramic brake discs, a technology typically reserved for high end automotive and racing applications.

These discs provide exceptional stopping power while reducing weight and rotational inertia. The result is improved braking consistency, especially under extreme conditions, and enhanced handling during corner entry.

The suspension system is equally advanced. The bike is equipped with a pressurised Ă–hlins NPX 25/30 fork featuring carbon fibre sleeves. This design reduces weight while maintaining rigidity and performance. At the rear, a MotoGP derived Ă–hlins TTX36 shock absorber ensures precise control and adaptability across different riding conditions.

Together, these systems deliver a riding experience that is both highly controlled and incredibly dynamic, even at the limits of performance.

With such immense power on tap, rider assistance systems play a crucial role. The Superleggera V4 Centenario is equipped with a comprehensive suite of electronic controls derived from Ducati’s racing programs.

These include traction control, wheelie control, slide control, launch control, and advanced cornering ABS. New algorithms allow for more precise adjustments, helping riders maintain stability and confidence in a wide range of scenarios.

One standout feature is the Dynamic Engine Brake system. This technology automatically adjusts engine braking and rear brake input to optimise grip during corner entry. It mirrors techniques used by professional racers, making them accessible to everyday riders.

The Superleggera V4 Centenario is not just a technical achievement. It is also a visual celebration of Ducati’s history. The bike features a distinctive Rosso Centenario livery, a deep red inspired by the brand’s earliest motorcycles and racing heritage.

Aerodynamics play a central role in the design. The fairing incorporates advanced winglets and sidepods derived from MotoGP technology. These elements generate downforce at high speeds and improve stability during aggressive cornering.

Despite its aggressive performance focus, the bike retains a level of refinement suitable for road use. Every detail, from the billet aluminium components to the numbered plaque, reflects craftsmanship and exclusivity.

Ducati will produce just 500 units of the Superleggera V4 Centenario, along with an additional 100 Tricolore variants. Each motorcycle is individually numbered, reinforcing its status as a collector’s item.

Ownership extends beyond the bike itself. Buyers receive a range of exclusive accessories, including a limited edition helmet, jacket, and a complete racing kit. The motorcycle is delivered in a custom wooden crate along with a certificate of authenticity and track equipment.

A select group of owners will also have the opportunity to participate in a MotoGP style track experience, allowing them to fully explore the bike’s capabilities under professional guidance.

The Superleggera V4 Centenario is more than just a celebratory model. It represents a new benchmark for what a production motorcycle can achieve. By combining cutting edge materials, race derived technology, and meticulous craftsmanship, Ducati has created a machine that blurs the line between road bike and race bike.

It is not designed for the average rider, nor is it meant to be widely accessible. Instead, it stands as a symbol of possibility, demonstrating what can be achieved when engineering ambition is allowed to run free. As Ducati enters its second century, the Superleggera V4 Centenario serves as both a tribute to its past and a bold vision of its future.
