Experience a Luxury Escape at Bamurru Plains

Situated amongst the wildlife and native bushland surrounding the Mary River are ten bungalow tents that make up the luxurious Bamurru Plains bush resort. The safari lodge has exclusive access to 300km of floodplains and woodlands and is situated an hour from Darwin on the edge of Kakadu National Park.

Bamurru Plains’ safari bungalows are all built on stilts to minimize their impact on the environment and have one solid wall, with the remaining three walls being made up of mesh. The mesh walls are specially designed so that guests can look onto the surrounding floodplains, but people on the outside cannot look in. Guests will be able to view the abundance of native wildlife that frequents the floodplains, including native birds such as Jabiru, jacana, pygmy, magpie geese, brolga and ibis. The bungalows contain a comfortable king bed with organic cotton linen and spacious ensuite bathrooms with high-pressure showers.

Décor reflects the indigenous, hunting and pastoral history of Mary River. The traditional owners of the land are the Jawoyn people, and the land continues to be of importance for present generations as it was for generations past. Buffalo horns, explorer’s maps, Aboriginal art work and fish traps are all displayed to represent the areas vast history. Each bungalow has a cold water thermos and local flora and fauna reading materials and species list.

The Kingfisher Suite is the largest bungalow available at Bamurru Plains, with the bedroom alone having 81m-squared of space. It has a king-sized bed and a large lounge area; there is space to accommodate a family of five. However, for couples, the additional space can be used to enjoy a chef-cooked intimate candle-lit dinner. The ensuite has twin basins and showers, rustic-chic timber and recycled corrugated walls. The shower has full floor-to-ceiling views of the surrounding floodplain and paperbark forests.

Bamurru Plains has a focus on protecting the environment that it exists in. 75% of the power used by the resort is solar-generated; not only does this help the environment, but it removes the need for a diesel generator. The lack of a generator means that the only noise guests’ hear comes from nature. Furthermore, a part of every guest’s stay fee is donated to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.

Many experiences are available for guests to participate in, including airboat safaris, birding, river cruises, open-top game drivers, guided walks, wildlife observation at the hide and quad bike tours. If you are looking for something that requires a little less effort, you can relax in the infinity pool, watching the water buffalo roaming the floodplains and the wallabies hopping past the tents. Perhaps the unique part about a getaway at Bamurru Plains is the complete lack of technology, which means no TV or Wi-Fi and no mobile reception.

Bamurru Plains offers a true luxury escape from the city. Lovers of luxury will find tranquillity whilst on holiday here, and nature lovers will enjoy the wide variety of flora and fauna that is just outside their door.
