Grand Seiko and Watches of Switzerland Collaborate on an Exclusive Limited Edition Model

The Grand Seiko Heritage Watches of Switzerland Limited Edition under reference SBGH337 was recently created in collaboration with the Watches of Switzerland Group alongside two other models; this watch is based on the brand’s famous 1967 62GS case design, and it marks the first purple-dialled Grand Seiko watch from the renowned Japanese watchmaker.

The watch has a textured, pastel purple dial that is reminiscent of the Jodogahama Beach in Miyako, Japan and the cosmic sky that can be spotted above its shoreline at night. It has quite an intricate mosaic-like finish seen it its intimate grooves getting smaller towards the centre of the dial, and it also has a deep purple seconds hand to match.

This Grand Seiko Heritage Watches of Switzerland exclusive model sports the same on-wrist feel that can be found among other modern Grand Seiko watches that are inspired by the historic 62GS case. The immaculate stainless-steel components are finished with Zaratsu polishing and contrasting linear brushed surfaces. This model is also fitted with a signed screw-down crown at 3 o’clock and a screw-down display case back that allows for a hundred metre water resistance. It even features a very subtle transparent Grand Seiko logo that offers an unobstructed view of the mechanical movements that power the watch.

And speaking of power, this watch is motorized by the same Hi-Beat Calibre 9S85 automatic movement that can be found within the Grand Seiko modern line up. Thus, it runs at a 36,000 vph (5 Hz) frequency, with a power reserve of about 55 hours, and it has a -3 or 5+ seconds per day accuracy rate. Moreover, the Calibre 9S85 offers pleasing aesthetics with the gold engravings for its markings, the perlage on the main plate, and the Grand Seiko signature “Tokyo stripes” that adorn the majority of the watch’s visible surface.

Now as far as its dimensions go, the case of this exclusive model measures 40mm in diameter and 12.5 in thickness, with 21mm lugs and a total lug-to-lug profile of 46.2mm. The lugs are also fitted with the standard five-link stainless bracelet that the brand is known for, along with three bigger brushed links. Though the bracelet doesn’t include quick-releasing connections at its end-links or any kind of incorporated extension system, the push-button clasp offers a compressed overall profile. The bracelet even includes a pair of half links for a more comfortable fit on the wrist. Moreover, a distinct feature of the case is the absence of a bezel, keeping the visual emphasis on the sweeping lugs and dial of the watch.

The purple-dialled Grand Seiko Heritage Watches of Switzerland Limited Edition model is retailed at $6,900 US ($10,470 AU).

Grand Seiko joining hands with the Watches of Switzerland Group to create this opulent exclusive model stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellent watchmaking. Watch collectors and aficionados alike will be very much delighted to add this exquisite purple gem to their personal collections.
