New InterContinental Set to Arrive in Greater Western Sydney

The world’s most prominent name in the luxury hotel business, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, is planned to arrive in Greater Western Sydney with the InterContinental Parramatta, working in partnership with owner Holdmark Property Group.

Set to open in 2025, the remarkable, new-build InterContinental Parramatta will be part of a vibrant mixed-use development that includes offices and a ground floor retail precinct. The building itself will be one of the most exciting high-rises to grace the city’s skyline, with the owners in the process of running an architectural competition to find a winning design.

The new cutting-edge hotel will retain the brand’s signature ‘InterContinental Life’ concept; the glamour and excitement of visiting magical destinations are fused with international know-how and local cultural wisdom. The new building will feature over 200 guestrooms, a restaurant and rooftop bar, club lounge, pool, gym, wellness centre and more than 900 sqm of meeting space. With InterContinental Hotels Group’s responsible business approach at its heart, it will be built to the highest green-rating standard.

While Parramatta might not necessarily spring to mind as a luxury destination, it is quickly becoming the main commercial centre for the broader Greater Western Sydney Region. It is touted as Sydney’s newest CBD. With significant infrastructure projects in place, Parramatta is one of Australia’s fastest-growing cities, making it clear that the self-styled capital of Sydney’s west is a highly sought-after destination. The planned hotel will be located at the junction of Church and Macquarie Street, a bustling intersection making it perfectly poised to attract both leisure and business travellers to the city.

Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s Vice President, Development – Japan, Australasia & Pacific, said:
“The transformation of Parramatta over the years has been extraordinary, and the city is truly deserving of a luxury hotel; it has been crying out for one for a long time. InterContinental has long been a pioneer in bringing luxury to new destinations, and we know that its arrival in western Sydney will bring a new era of sophisticated travel to the locale. Together with Holdmark Property Group, we’re excited to re-shape the landscape and give the local community a luxury hotel about which they can be very proud.”

This planned development will also create the opportunity to attract high-end restaurants and entertainment options for guests and the community. As a result, Parramatta will become a vibrant hub for the Greater Western Sydney Region, allowing travellers and locals to experience a taste of luxury in a distinctive landscape.
