Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2025: A Spectacular Reunion in Milan

The Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2025 show at Milan Fashion Week was nothing short of a dazzling spectacle, capturing the essence of bold luxury and unapologetic glamour that the house is known for. Held in a stunning venue that echoed the rich heritage of Italian fashion, the event was a triumphant celebration of creativity, heritage, and a nostalgic nod to the supermodel era.

A Star-Studded Affair

As the first show since Roberto Cavalli’s passing, creative director Fausto Puglisi paid homage to Cavalli himself and how he, in his own words, “was the party.” The runway was brought to a close by the return of familiar faces like Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova et al, walking in the very same dresses they wore decades before, a deliberate tribute to Cavalli’s history. Their spectacular return brought an electric energy to the event, reminiscent of the late 90s and early 2000s when these models were synonymous with the brand’s extravagant style. The audience erupted in applause as they walked the runway, encapsulating the timeless allure that Cavalli’s designs evoke.

The Collection: A Fusion of Wild and Refined

The collection drew inspiration from Puglisi’s Sicilian hometown of Messina. It began with a range of white outfits reflecting the local architecture, featuring rope details that echoed its coastal setting. These pieces were perfect for vacations, showcasing skin-baring cutouts, short hems, and high slits, often crafted from pre-wrinkled fabrics that remain stylish even in warmer weather.

Puglisi also incorporated neutrals, including a “fishing net” cover-up and faux snakeskin tailoring. He then transitioned into vibrant photo prints of electric sunsets and crashing waves, which brought life to slip-dresses and pyjama sets, culminating in a stunning goddess dress with a built-in capelet.

The collection featured an array of dresses that celebrated femininity, ranging from flowing maxi dresses adorned with bold floral patterns to structured pieces that emphasized the silhouette. Puglisi’s vision was evident in the way he intertwined Cavalli’s signature motifs with contemporary elements. The use of luxurious fabrics such as silk and chiffon gave the garments an ethereal quality, while the striking prints showcased a modern twist on Cavalli’s iconic animal patterns. The designs radiated confidence, inviting women to embrace their individuality and express their unique style.

A standout feature of the collection featured three stunning mermaid dresses that redefined the often-criticized red carpet silhouette. Unlike many formal gowns that can feel constricting and rigid, these dresses embraced a stretchy design that allowed for freedom of movement and comfort. By prioritising ease and comfort, Puglisi successfully modernised the brand’s offerings, representing his most significant contribution to Cavalli’s signature sensual aesthetic. These mermaid dresses not only exuded elegance but also embodied a more relaxed take on formalwear, making them accessible and inviting for the wearer. By blending luxurious style with practicality, Puglisi has ensured that these pieces are not just visually striking but also enjoyable to wear, setting a new standard for special occasion attire. The incorporation of such thoughtful design elements reflects a contemporary shift in fashion, where comfort and allure go hand in hand, ultimately reshaping how we perceive high-fashion silhouettes.

A New Era for Cavalli

In a world where fashion often feels transient, the Cavalli show stood as a testament to the enduring power of style, identity, and the vibrant spirit of Milanese fashion. With its breathtaking designs and memorable presentation, the Spring/Summer 2025 collection will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, inspiring fashion lovers to embrace their wild side while celebrating the beauty of individuality.
