The Langham Joins with Australia’s Top Musicians to Present a Series of Intimate Recitals

To celebrate the return of live music in 2021, The Langham, Sydney, in association with Andrew McKinnon Productions, has produced the exclusive Salon Series. Bringing together the best of Australian music with the luxury of The Langham, the Salon Series is a must-attend high-end event.

Occurring on the last weekend of the month, the Salon Series combines an intimate recital from one of Australia’s best musicians with a choice of either Afternoon Tea or a 5-course Degustation Dinner with a bespoke wine package. Australian-born Executive chef Stephen Lech heads the Langham kitchen. With twenty years of experience working in kitchens for luxury restaurants and resorts in Australia and England, Lech delivers a stunning display of delicacies for guests to enjoy.

The star performers for the May Salon recital are the acclaimed Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi and popular jazz performer George Washingmachine. The recital will be a celebration of the work of composer George Gershwin and his brother and lyricist, Ira. Tedeschi’s solo performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue will be a highlight of the performance.

Simon Tedeschi has won multiple awards, including Symphony Australia’s Young Performer of the Year, Legacy Award from the Creativity Foundation (USA) and Centenary of Federation Medal. He has performed for multiple world leaders, including US President Georgie W. Bush, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. He is a soloist with all major Australian orchestras.

Multitalented jazz musician George Washingmachine trained for seven years as a classical violinist before forming a rhythm and blues band. Subsequently, he became one of Australia’s most highly acclaimed jazz musicians, and he continues to perform at all major jazz festivals in Australia. He has released multiple albums, including The Dee Why Sessions, Midnight Sun, Cow Cow Boogie and Room 301 Sessions.

Coming up in June will be members of the Australian Piano Quartet, Russian pianist Konstantin Shamray and cellist Thomas Rann. They will be performing a recital of exquisite romantic Russian music, the highlight of which will be Rachmaninov’s sonata in G minor for cello and piano.

International pianist Konstantin Shamray has performed as a soloist with many major Australian Symphony orchestras. He is the only competitor in 40 years to win the first and People’s Choice awards at the Sydney International Piano Competition. He has won the Kissinger Sommer festival’s Luitpold Prize for ‘Outstanding musical achievement’.

Thomas Rann has established himself as an eminent musician and teacher. Currently, the Artistic Director of the Australia Quartet. He has won many awards and prizes, including ANAM Concerto Competition, Hattori Foundation Award and the E.V. Llewellyn Prize.
