The Latest High-Fashion Collaboration: Dior X Sacai

It appears that this is the year of luxury fashion brands collaborating to make products that are the ultimate mixture of high-fashion and casual wear. So far, we’ve had Gucci and Xbox, Fendi X SKIMS, Fendi and Versace, and Louis Vuitton and Supreme. Now we have Dior and Japanese label Sacai teaming up for this year’s latest partnership.

Sacai was founded in 1999 by Chitose Abe. What started as a small handmade run out of the home business, that took two years to hire its first employee, has turned into one of the most famous and successful Japanese fashion labels in a western market. Previously Sacai have collaborated with Nike and Beats by Dre. They made their Paris Fashion Week Debut in 2008 and have continued growing ever since. Some of the biggest names in fashion are fans of theirs, including Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld. Sacai and Abe are well-known for blending the lines between high-fashion and streetwear; Abe has said that she doesn’t follow the market; her designs are all items she wants to wear.

The collection features 57 carefully designed items that showcase Dior’s excellence with Sacai’s streetwear and technique. An exciting inclusion is a new logo that blends Dior and Sacai’s logo; this is the first time Dior have altered their logo. The new logo combines the mutual “i” in both names, with Sacai appearing stitched vertically into Dior’s “i”.

Notable Pieces:

The Saddle Bag

There are actually three variations on the saddle bag available in this collection; having debuted in Kim Jones’ first collection for Dior, it is very exciting to see this piece return. The three styles are the Saddle Bag, the Saddle Soft Bag and the Saddle Tote. Each of them are made with technical fabric and grained calfskin, they all feature a ring that small leather goods can be attached to, think a water bottle holder, and the Dior and Sacai logo is on the interior with the Christian Dior logo shown on the front of the bags.

The Chelsea Boots

The Chelsea boots are ankle boots made with soft calfskin and a two-tone rubber sole with the DIOR signature on the heel. These beautiful shoes are designed to work with any outfit in the Dior X Sacai collection.

The Oversized Sweater

This has everything you could want from a sweater; it is oversized and has exquisite floral embroidery all over. It is exceptionally comfortable with a composition of 70% wool and 30% cashmere and features the latest trend of buttoned side panels so you can transform it into an opened side sweater.

The Hybrid Bomber Jacket

The hybrid bomber jacket is made from a cream water-repellant technical twill distinguished by a mix of fabrics and overlays. The subtle colour changes draw the eye to this piece; even the Dior and Sacai logo is beautifully woven into the back using tonal colours.
