It is common knowledge that Melbourne is home to some of the most luxurious restaurants in Australia, and this April, the city welcomed yet another phenomenal venue. Nestled on the 24th level of the impressive $400 million Goldfields House, Beverly Rooftop is a testament to luxury and culinary excellence.
Three years in the making, this rooftop restaurant and bar is the brainchild of Cameron Northway, co-owner of Bondi’s Rocker and St. Kilda’s Loti, alongside Goldfields’ CEO Lachlan Thompson and managing director Marco Gattino. Wanting to create a restaurant like no other, Beverly Rooftop is a unique fine-dining space where customers can enjoy a brilliantly curated menu as they watch the city atmosphere transform from day to night.
The restaurant’s visionary team drew inspiration from the glamourous roof-top bars of Los Angeles. Taking elements of Southern Californian design, the team effortlessly combined the aesthetic with the quintessential contemporary Melbourne style. The result is a light, open space with hints of colour in the blush-pink curved chairs and the green-and-white striped loungers, providing enough seating for 200 guests. These stunning interiors were developed by the renowned studio Mitchell & Eades, who sought to create a space that emphasised the jaw-dropping 270-degree view of the city. With a retractable glass rooftop, guests can immerse themselves in the heart of Melbourne and connect with the sky and the city.
In addition to creating an immaculate dining space, the interior designers included an open bar and kitchen so guests can watch the talented chefs and mixologists create outstanding dishes and cocktails. Headed by chef David Ball, a highly accomplished chef who started his career working under chef Raymond Blanc in the two-star Michelin restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons in Oxford. Since then, Ball has spent many years working in kitchens across London and Paris to hone his fine dining, eventually coming to Melbourne as head chef for Dominique Portet in Yarra Valley. The menu for Beverly Rooftop is a testament to Ball’s culinary prowess, with each dish successfully complementing the venue’s Californian influences whilst showcasing the very best of Australian produce and flavours.
There is a diverse range of dishes to appeal to the palette of any diner, from mouth-watering seafood to classic meals with a gourmet twist. Some standouts include the signature Marron and Spanner crab pasta and the truffle gouda mac n cheese, as well as lighter options like the prawn ceviche with jalapeño cream and the Bluefin Tartare with chilli yuzu mayo. The kitchen is also fitted with a wood fire grill that perfectly cooks the pasture-raised chicken and eye fillet steaks featured on the menu. Beverly Rooftop also caters for a variety of dietary requirements, with exceptional vegetarian options like the plant-based chicken pappardelle with smoked paprika and chilli.
On top of its individual dishes, Beverly Rooftop also offers two set menu options curated by Chef David Ball to highlight several daily specials through a selection of shared plates for guests to indulge in. Priced at $95 per person, Set Menu One features a wood-roasted octopus, lamb rump with a red wine jus, dark chocolate terrine, and the classic tiramisu. Alternatively, Set Menu Two includes meals like ora king salmon and kingfish crudo, 40-day dry-aged short-loin, wood-roasted greens, and caramelised apple and rhubarb crumble with coconut sorbet, totalling a price of $120 per person. Whether opting for a quick bite or settling in for a multi-course meal, Beverly Rooftop promises an exceptional dining journey.
In addition to its enticing food menu, Beverly Rooftop also presents an in-depth beverage selection. From signature cocktails like Sunset Bellini and the tequila-infused Mayahuel (featuring the celebrated Casamigos tequila), the bar offers a long list of revamped classic tipples blended with new and innovative concoctions. Moreover, the extensive wine list features locally sourced biodynamic and organic wines that pair beautifully with every meal; the bar also features a diverse selection of craft beers and spirits that cater to every guest’s palette.
With its luxury interiors and opulent flavours, Beverly Rooftop surpasses the high-end Los Angeles venues it was inspired by to deliver guests an unprecedented level of glitz and glamour. The exceptional blend of gourmet food and fantastic views makes Beverly Rooftop an unforgettable dining experience and a must-see when visiting Melbourne.
