Bondi has recently welcomed the opening of a new bar, Makaveli. Located only a few blocks from the iconic beachfront, this new eatery brings a luxury edge that customers can enjoy throughout the day.
The new spot serves standout cocktails and the sought-after location of Makaveli makes it the perfect venue to visit when in Bondi. The exclusive 28-seat eatery and bar on Glenayr Avenue is the latest from Jacob Hill and Phil Cooke – two friends who share a passion for creating a space where customers can escape to.
Makaveli offers a high-end menu with a wide range of choices that customers can indulge in. The assortment of food includes plates laden with snackable salty-spicy peppers or bresaola topped with acidy artichokes. Stand-out dishes include just-charred purple broccolini with a garlicky capsicum sauce; and burrata and greens and ricotta with roasted grapes.
The luxury also oozes into the specially crafted drinks menu including a smooth Makaveli Espresso, which is comprised of a fresh shot of coffee and tequila; and classics such as Garibaldi and Charlie Chaplin.
The night-time offering is the drawcard to the establishment but the venue opens its doors from 6 am every day, too. The owners of Makaveli have a background in evening time venues but have expressed how they “fell in love with the morning culture in Sydney, so we decided we couldn’t not do it all.”
The sophisticated establishment also prioritizes local produce to serve customers. This includes Will & Co coffee and baked treats from Clovelly’s Tuga Pastries.
Makaveli also exudes a luxury feel to its premises through its interior design. Imogen Reed (Bar Lucia, Taqiza) personally designed the interiors, keeping the colour palette muted with a high focus on texture. Tamarama-based Porch Ceramics crafted bespoke light fixtures alongside off-white cups for morning coffees. Makaveli’s mood changes as the day ticks by, with the lights dimming and the music shifting to fit with the time of day.
The owners have created a space that customers will want to return to and introduce to friends and family. Makaveli aims to be an intimate space whilst maintaining a “big personality”, as described by the ambitious owners.
