Set on the Southern Portion of the renowned Great Barrier Reef, Pumpkin Island is now up for sale with a price guide of $25 million. Pumpkin Island sits 14 kilometres off Yeppoon, central Queensland, and is a six-hectare plot that feature dreamy tropical views, built on stunning beaches, crystal clear waters and swaying palms.
The island first opened to the public in 1964, with Laureth and Wayne Rumble from Sojourn Retreats taking ownership in 2003. The island was then leased by Queensland brewery Castlemaine between 2012-2015 for promotional purposes. Since then, Pumpkin Island has been transformed into a peaceful, eco-friendly destination. Labelled Australia’s first “beyond carbon neutral” island – offsetting 150% of its annual greenhouse emissions. The resort has also claimed the title of Australia’s most sustainable hotel in 2018.
The island is currently operating with five self-contained beach cottages, each with their own outdoor private deck. There’s also two oceanfront bungalows, each featuring a games room, library and sunset lounge. Pumpkin Island is able to accommodate up to 34 guests.
The island also features its very own licensed bar, lounging area, two registered moorings, a helicopter pad, and custom 36-passenger boat, the Pumpkin Xpress. As part of the reef system, the waters are primed for fishing, snorkelling and diving – all a fifteen minute boat ride from Great Keppel Island.
In addition to the island’s current lease (valid until 2046), there is an option to purchase an oyster lease – allowing owners to shuck straight from the sea. The listing is with the well known Knight Frank’s team, and has a price guide of $25 million.
