The Pagani Huayra Goes Manual

Pagani Automobili, renowned for its hyper-exclusive and high-performance supercars, continues to defy expectations with its latest offering, the Huayra Epitome.

Despite the Huayra’s official production run having concluded, the Italian marque’s Grandi Complicazioni division has breathed new life into the model, delivering a supercar that melds the traditional with the cutting-edge.

Unveiled at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Huayra Epitome is the first in the model’s lineage to feature a traditional manual transmission—a rare departure from the standard 7-speed automated manual transmission produced by Xtrac. The Epitome integrates a pedal-actuated clutch, reviving the joy of driving with a third pedal. This is a noteworthy shift from the typical automatic gear systems used in both road-going and track versions of the Huayra, such as the Huayra R and Huayra R Evo, which employ a 6-speed sequential transmission.

The Epitome’s manual transmission is not just a nostalgic nod; it has been meticulously upgraded to include a new triple-disc clutch and a sophisticated racing-style tripod joint system. These enhancements are designed to optimise engine responsiveness, ensuring that the driving experience is as exhilarating as it is precise.

Under the bonnet, the Huayra Epitome houses the same twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V-12 engine from Mercedes-Benz AMG that powers its predecessors. However, this engine has been tuned to deliver an impressive 851 horsepower. The Epitome’s titanium exhaust system is another highlight, featuring two new outlets integrated into the rear diffuser. These outlets function as a blown diffuser, augmenting downforce and enhancing high-speed stability. They complement the signature four high-mounted exhaust pipes, maintaining the Huayra’s distinctive visual and auditory identity.

The Epitome also introduces several unique design elements. The front and rear fascias have been reworked, presenting a more aggressive and refined aesthetic. New headlight clusters, along with daytime running light elements that line the side intakes, further distinguish the Epitome. At the rear, a striking wing that connects to the fenders was specifically requested by the client, adding both style and functionality.

In terms of handling, the Huayra Epitome boasts upgraded active dampers, providing an advanced level of ride comfort. A button on the centre console allows drivers to switch the suspension to a “super soft” setting for rough roads. This setting automatically reverts to a firmer mode when speeds exceed 93 mph, ensuring both comfort and performance are optimally balanced.

While Pagani has not disclosed a price tag for the Epitome, it is expected to be a multi-million-dollar affair, reflecting its bespoke nature and the exclusivity of Pagani’s craftsmanship. This latest creation reaffirms Pagani’s commitment to catering to its affluent clientele with personalised, limited-production vehicles that honour the brand’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation.

The Epitome’s unveiling at the Goodwood Festival of Speed has enthralled enthusiasts and collectors, reaffirming Pagani’s position at the forefront of bespoke automotive excellence.
